Why Is an Industrial Floor Different from a Regular Floor?

An industrial floor is an engineering structure, not just a concrete slab. It must withstand heavy traffic (forklifts, trucks), chemical agents (oils, detergents, acid damage), temperature fluctuations and intensive daily use for decades. A regular residential floor would fail in a typical warehouse within 2–3 years.

Industrial Floor Types — Which Suits You?

Standard Reinforced Concrete Floors (AR class)

The most common type in warehouses and production facilities. Concrete floor poured at 15–20 cm thickness, reinforced with steel bars and surface treated with hardening material. Wear resistance class selection: AR2 (light traffic, pedestrians), AR1 (medium-weight forklifts up to 3t), AR0.5 (heavy forklifts over 5t, continuous traffic).

Fiber Concrete Floors (Fibre-reinforced)

Fiber concrete contains steel fibers (35–50 kg/m³) that partially replace reinforcing steel and reduce cracking. Faster to install (no reinforcement mesh needed) and well suited for larger areas. Fiber concrete floor is 10–15% more expensive than standard, but faster to install.

Epoxy and Polyurethane Floors

Epoxy floor (2–5 mm thick coating on existing concrete) provides a chemically resistant, dust-free and easily cleanable surface. Suitable for food industry, pharmaceuticals and car washes. Polyurethane coating is more flexible and shock-resistant than epoxy coatings.

Industrial Floor Construction Process Step by Step

Step 1 — Subsoil assessment and design. Step 2 — Base preparation: old coverings removed, gravel base laid and compacted. Step 3 — Insulation: moisture barrier and thermal insulation. Step 4 — Reinforcement: B500B steel mesh (150×150 mm). Step 5 — Concrete pouring with laser leveling: ±3mm/3m flatness tolerance — critical for forklift operation. Step 6 — Surface finishing: hardener (topping/silica) applied to fresh concrete improves wear resistance by 40–60%. Step 7 — Joints: cut at every 5–6m interval (6m × 6m grid) to prevent uncontrolled cracking.

Industrial Floor Prices in Tallinn 2025

Indicative prices (excluding VAT, depends on volume): standard reinforced concrete floor €35–55/m²; fiber concrete floor €42–65/m²; epoxy coating on existing floor €20–45/m²; polished concrete floor €45–75/m². Prices depend on surface area — for projects over 1000 m² we can offer 10–20% volume discount.
